First blog post. I’m going to start off with a painting done for charity, it’s official title is “…for the Kingdom if I can“, but we call it “Steve” around here… Originally painted for an event benefiting Project Hospitality, but since given to ZEROSTIGMATA AND AMFO BENEFIT COLLECTIVE.
It’s based on a photograph by my good friend Mike Shane, from a trip we took to New Orleans a few years back, and named after one of the greatest song lyrics I know (from “Heroin” by Velvet Underground). The whole piece is incredibly personal to me for all sorts of reasons, the biggest perhaps being my departure from pure stencil work… “Steve” represents a step in a new direction wherein my “free painting” kicked in and made the image for me.
Enjoy!

"psyn": (n) pronounced "sin". shortened form of Psyntax, etymological roots in "psyche" and "syntax", or "mind/soul-code".
robots will kill since 2001. i started writing on things that didn't belong to me at 9, writing scenes and lyrics at 12, live poetry performances by age 14, canvases and stencils at 24 and am just getting started.
i tend to choose subjects of great personal attachment for me, either personally/emotionally or conceptually/philosophically. while creating a portrait, i'm drawn into contemplating the dynamic i have with that person or concept and what they represent in an archetypal sense to my own mythology. i enjoy collaborating on everything from stickers to large installation pieces.
This is actually quite an interesting peice; may I ask why it is so personal to you? I find that the artist’s statement just as vital as the work itself, although I will admit that I am sometimes guilty of slacking when it comes to creating one 😛 I am also curious as to what the medium was…. 🙂 thanks for sharing this, I look forward to reading more!
Thanks for your comment! Honestly, the piece is personal to me because I mixed elements of other people into the face, including my Father… The medium was spray paint / acrylics and ink on canvas. Thanks for reading! Keep an eye out, as the blog isn’t nearly done yet, but I will be loading content so I have it there when it “launches”!
Thanks again,
`kev

Love the insight and the song! There is something so relatable about this piece. Awesome! Xo
